Our Team
Juli is our team leader and is responsible for a smooth operation of the media kitchen. She will help you in case of any questions, e.g. regarding recipes, quality and specification of our chemicals and our equipment.
Renate, Agnieszka, Veronika and Marta are preparing your medias and agar plates. They are maintaining the instruments in the media kitchen, including the supervision of our two 400L autoclaves. All of them are well trained and are happy to receive your orders via PPMS ordering system.

Autoclaving Service
We offer a sterilization service for solid material as well as for liquids. Please provide your material in due time in our cleaning kitchen. The schedule is:
- Solids: Mo, We and Fr: 9:00 a.m.
- Liquids: Mo and We 12:00, Fr 10:00 a.m.
Autoclaving of solids includes drying of the items at 90°C afterwards!
Media and Solutions
Our Media Kitchen staff provides high quality solutions and media for your research. Bring in your recipe!
In most cases your items will be finished within 48 working hours. Please use the PPMS online platform for your orders!
Detailed protocols of all media can be requested at lsf@ist.ac.at
We recommend following shelf lives of our products:
Salt solutions and Milli-Q: 2 years
Buffers: 1.5 years
Broths: 1 year
Agars in petri dishes and bottles: 1 month
Exceptions:
Agar with sugars: max. 3 weeks at +4°C
Agar with ampicillin: 2 weeks at +4°C
Production of competent cells
All our competent cells are Mix & Go and are therefore ready for “fast transformation” (see page 4 in manual).

We fill the cells in 1.5ml tubes.
As we need to do some quality checks the amount of tubes of one charge may vary slightly.
Please order your cells a minimum of 3 weeks before you want to use them!
