General lab safety

Before you are allowed to work in a lab you have to read the general lab guideline, join the safety briefing for newcomers and get a lab specific safety training from a lab member.

Biosafety Level (BSL) 2

Work with RG2 organism in a BSL2 lab:

BSL2 labs are access restricted. To get access with your card you have to request a BSL2 training from LSF.

New projects with risk group 2 biological material or work with radioactive substance:

Inform LSF as early as possible. LSF has to check the legal obligations for your project!

Toxic Substances

The receipt of toxic substances have to be documented in the chemical database ChemInventory.

Toxic substances have to stored in a looked cupboard labeled with the danger sign for toxics  (GHS 06) and the telefon number of the poison information center.

Toxic bulk chemicals are defined by the User’s Group and cannot be chosen by individual labs.

At the moment these are

  • Chloroform
  • Chloroform d

Radioactive Substances

If you plan to work with a radioactive substance please get in contact with LSF.

The legal obligations have to be checked. This can take up to 6 months to get an approval from the authorities.

Radioactive substances are only ordered by LSF.
